Browser’s Guide to Architecture: the NA Classification

The University at Buffalo’s Libraries’ collections are arranged according to the Library of Congress subject classification system. According to this system, architectural materials are assigned  to a section of call numbers beginning with NA, although related materials can be found in TH (building and construction), NC (drawing and graphic arts), NK (interior architecture and design), E-F (U.S. history, historic preservation), HT (city planning), K (architecture & law), LB (buildings for education), RA (hospital design), etc.

The following guide to the NA section will assist users who wish to browse the APL collection. Please remember when browsing that items may be checked out, in storage, in other libraries on campus, or in other classifications.  Also architects may use many materials beyond those classed in NA, and the classifications change over the years. A thorough can be accomplished by using BISON- the UB libraries catalog or Worldcat – a mega library catalog (not just UB) by keyword or subject.
