Penelope Ploughman was a member of the University at Buffalo's Sociology Department and Dr. Adeline Levine's "Love Canal Research Group" from 1977-1980. Building on her work as part of the "Love Canal Research Group", Ploughman wrote her dissertation on the news coverage of Love Canal. Using her research materials and the extensive photographs she took, Ploughman developed the slide presentation The History and Development of Love Canal: From Model City Dream to Environmental Nightmare, which she used in lectures for several years.
After earning her Ph.D. in 1984, Ploughman earned a J.D. from the University at Buffalo's Law School in 1989.
This collection includes research materials and images relating to the environmental disaster known as Love Canal. Contents include slides, photographs, clippings, microfilm copies of additional clippings, CD-ROMs containing digital images, and a dissertation.
