Historical Note

David Wilk edited twenty-one issues of Truck between 1970 and 1979. The magazine featured poetry, prose, and drawings by such authors as George Butterick, Kit Robinson, Steve Benson, Richard Grossinger, Paul Blackburn, Ken Irby, Paul Metcalf, Nathaniel Tarn, Hayden Carruth, Ted Enslin, and John Yau. Special issues included features on Vermont writers, landscape, Lorine Niedecker, Ted Enslin, and Jonathan Williams. Wilk’s Truck Press also published books and broadsides by Daphne Marlatt, Paul Kahn, Allen Fisher, Cid Corman, Jonathan Williams, and others. In 1978 Wilk stopped editing Truck when he became the Literature Director for the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Truck Collection contains manuscripts by writers such as Bruce Andrews, Steve Benson, George Butterick, Ted Enslin, Daphne Marlatt, Paul Metcalf, and Ed Sanders; business records and correspondence; editorial correspondence to David Wilk from Richard Grossinger, Lyn Hejinian, Ken Irby, Paul Kahn, Daphne Marlatt, John Taggart, John Yau, Karl Young, and many others; miscellaneous items from throughout the life of the magazine; and photographs.
